Welcome to Rainbow Trail Roper Reins

Why did I go into business?  Good question.  I had found that you cannot buy continuous or "roper" reins in lengths longer than 8 feet in any retail establishment.  While 8 feet may be wonderful for speed events such as barrel racing, they are not useful on the trail.  If your horse needs to drop his head for any reason, say, to check out a bridge or a water crossing, you hand has to go halfway up his neck just to keep a hold on your rein.  I found this to be quite frustrating.  So I made my own reins.

In researching the process of making these reins, I have discovered the secrets of the many "natural horsemanship" trainers we see charging lots of money for their products:  double braid marine rope.

WHY DOUBLE BRAID MARINE ROPE?

What is the difference between normal rope and double braid marine rope?  Another good question!  At first glance and in pictures, double braid marine rope doesn't look much different than a normal rope.  The difference is that this type of rope has a center core covered by an outer core which can move independently.

When you hold double braid marine rope in your hand, the first thing you'll notice is how "heavy" it feels compared to normal rope.  This allows the rope to move with a "live" feel, which, in turn, allows you to send energy down the rope to the horse.  This is something that you just can't do with a normal rope lead line or lunge line or reins.

Why is this important?  First and foremost, double braid rope sends a clear message to the horse.  The second thing, not quite as obvious, is timing.  When you are training your horse, you only have a 2-3 second window of opportunity to communicate clearly with your horse and have him be able to understand what you are asking.  These crucial seconds are the most important in the training of your horse.
And How About Color!

Okay, we've covered functionality.  Now let's talk color.  Who says your reins can only come in black or white, or worse yet, multi-colored solid braid nylon with melted ends?

Rainbow Trail Roper Reins offers a large selection of colors, including purple, baby blue, hunter green, and many more.  We have a color to satisfy nearly everyone.  And, of course, we have black.
